S.O.S for dehydrated skin

It’s just this time of the year. Skin is feels tight and looks parched, and I am sure you’ve heard women complaining, that they feel their skin is so dry. Well it’s usually not dry but dehydrated.

Now I am sure you will ask what the difference is.

Dry skin is a skin type and it lacks oil.  Dehydrated skin is a skin condition and it lacks water.  So basically every skin type can be dehydrated, even highly oily skin. In fact dehydrated skin can produce more oil in an attempt to stop the skin becoming more dehydrated.

How to tell the difference?

Here is the test:  take the long edge of your index finger and place it on the lower part of your cheek and then gently press upwards, if your skin has lots of really fine, tiny, crinkly lines, then your skin is dehydrated.

Reasons why your skin might be dehydrated could be one of the following:

Not drinking enough water. I am a firm believer in hydrating the skin from both the inside and outside. So make sure to drink loads of water during the day. Also eating foods that contain mostly water, such as most fruits and vegetables can help with dehydration.
Drinking to many caffeinated drinks, such as tea, coffee, fizzy drinks etc.  Try to limit them as much as possible.
Smoking or being exposed to smoke in the air for longer periods.
Heat or air conditioning.
Over cleansing and use of too harsh cleansers. In fact every cleanser that requires water to remove it can affect the Ph balance of the skin. In order to prevent further dehydration, always use a hydrating toner after.
Incorrect skin care for your skin type. If you are not sure what your skin type is, then I would suggest to see a beauty therapist and seek advice.
I can recommend the following products, to help combat dehydration.

Decleór Aromessence Excellence
It is hard to believe that an oil can actually help diminish oil production in the skin, but it's true. It helps to renew the skin (combination of Iris Concrete, Essential Oils of Frankincense and Magnolia and the Sol-collagenine Complex), combats skin dehydration (Inca Inchi Plant Oils, Plum Kernels and Quinoa Macerate) and reduces pigmentation irregularities (Roman Camomile Essential Oil). It has normalized my oily T-zone  and dry cheeks considerably. It smells amazingly relaxing and makes you feel pampered. I use this every morning  after cleansing , just 3 drops , and it makes skin glow from within in a non-shiny way.  My favorite at the moment.
DMK seba-e
This is a very fine blend of herbal oils and vitamin E which aims to penetrate the skin and seal in moisture. It’s supposed to  replicate your skin’s natural sebum to retain the water and nutrients necessary for cell life. This oil always helps with dryness and dehydration.  I usually use it with DMK Herb and Mineral Mist.
Trilogy Rosehip Oil
This oil is honestly like liquid gold for my dry and pigmentation prone skin. The oil feels very soothing on my face. I only use about four drops, and that covers my whole face. I massage my face then for about five minutes, and after that, my skin feels so soft and moisturized. The lipids found in Rosehip oil are similar to those found in your skin; therefore, it absorbs easily, leaving no oily residue.
Decleórs Aromessence Rose d`Orient D’Orient  Soothing Night balm

This balm has a rich texture, but still doesn't clog my pores and it makes my skin look dewy and plump.  I love it when I wake up next morning and all the redness and sensitivity is gone.
I take a bean size and warm up using my palm, and I massage it in for about 5 to 10 minutes. The balm just melts into my skin. The smell is divine and really helps me to relax. I even found that I sleep much better with the balm, must be due to the essential oils in it.

How to use the hydrating serums:
After cleansing my skin I spray on Dermalogica Multi Active Toner or DMK Herb and Mineral Mist and then seal in the moisture with few drops of the face treatment oil mentioned above, by massaging it lightly into my skin.

Here is a video how to massage your skin and the best thing is you can do this every evening in front of your telly!

What are you tips for well hydrated skin? Any particular products you would like to recommend?
