These Case Studies have passed both ITEC and CIBTAC Beauty Specialist Exams. I've published these case studies only as a guideline, so please do yourself a favour and do not copy them, but rather try to come up with your own version. When you write your own case studies, you also learn at the same time and that in return will help you with your exam papers.
Case Study 1
Diana made an appointment with me for an underarm and bikini line wax.
When Diana arrived, I greeted her warmly. I then asked her to take a seat and to fill out the client consultation form.
Before she arrived, I prepared everything for the wax treatment in advance.
I plugged in the wax pot and heated it up to 50 degrees, and made sure that everthing was on the trolley that I needed for the waxing treatment.
I then helped Diana on to bed and made sure that she was comfortable enough.
I put on gloves and then placed the towel across my client, so that the area to be waxed was the only area exposed. I then asked Diana to to tuck the tissue into the leg part of her underwear to protect them from the wax. I explained to Diana how to position her legs so that I could wax her bikini line while still keeping her covered. I asked Diana if she was comfortable, and she said she was.
I sanitized the bikini area and put a pre waxing lotion on it.
I tested the temperature of the wax on my own wrist and the ankle of my client.
My client was happy with the temperature of the wax.
I used cotton wool to apply talc powder to the hair and made sure that there was no moisture or oil residue that would prevent wax adhering to the hair.
Using a disposable spatula, I then applied the hot wax on the first patch, starting in the direction of the hairgrowth and then against the hairgrowth in a figure of eight motion until there was thick layer on the area.
After few seconds, I lifted a small corner at the bottom end so that I could pull it against the hairgrowth. Before I pulled the wax, I made sure that the consistency was right to pull and it was.
I then pulled the wax off in one fast movement then placed the wax patch back on the area to reduce the pain to the client.
I repeated the same procedure two more times on the right side and then moved on and did reapeted the same on the left side.
Once completely finished with the waxing, I examined the bikini area to see if there were any hairs left and there were few.
With a sanitized tweezers, I plucked the hairs that were left out.
After waxing I used after wax oil containing Aloe Vera to soothe the skin and also to remove any waxy residue left in the area.
On the more redden area, I also applied Savlon in order to avoid infections and excessive skin irritation.
I then sanitized the under arm area and put a pre waxing lotion on it.

Diana was very happy with the results of the bikine line and the under arm wax. She said, she is happy to be hairfree again and didn’t find it to painful . She said she usually shaves the under arm area, but she will now continue to wax it.
She also said that she will come back again for another treatment and that she will recommend me to her friends.
I advise Diana that it would be for the best if she can avoid any tight clothing for the next 24 hours, because it can irritate the skin and cause ingrown hair.
She should also avoid heavy exercise for at least 24 hours, since the sweat is a breeding ground for bacteria.
I also advise her not to use any artificial tanning sprays or lotions in the next 24 hours.
I advised Diana to have only warm showers and not to exfoliate for the next 48 hours and also to avoid saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools and other heated sources for at least 48 hours.
I suggested to Diana that she should invest in a good exfoliater and exfoliate and moisturize her skin each time after shower to prevent ingrown hairs.
I also advised her that she should return for another treatment in 4-6 weeks.
