Makeup Inspiration - Marilyn Monroe

Last Sunday it was the 50th Anniversary of Marilyn Monroes death. On August 5, 1962, police in Brentwood received a surprising call: Marilyn Monroe – the most celebrated woman in the world – was dead at age 36. Marylin,  women wanted to be her and men wanted to marry her and have her babies.
I love Marilyn and everything about her, the style, the makeup…. It’s one of my favorite makeup looks of all the time. I have been trying to recreate her look ever since, which pretty much is a process of trial and error. She knew just how to accentuate certain features that all women should know about.
Here is the makeup look dedicated to Marilyn, may she rest in peace.

FACE
Marylin used Vaseline to highlight her face. So apply a layer petroleum jelly  (Vaseline)  as primer.  Then apply cream foundation all over you face.  (I used Shu Uemura Nobaru cream foundation)
To highlight the under the eye area, apply a very light concealer (  I used.MAC Studio Finish NW15)
To contour  the face,  apply high on the cheek bone a pinky brown blush ( I used Bobbi Brown Blush in Blushed) . Also apply the same blush to the temples and blend it into the hairline.

EYES
Before applying eyeshadow, dust a generous amount of translucent powder under the eye, that way if any shadow falls under the eye during application, you can easily brush it off and will also naturally highlight the under eye are.
Marilyn's eyeshadow was very subtle. Apply some light brown shadow to the crease of the eyelid, and to the outer area below brow . Then add  a shiny off-white eyeshadow to the center of the lid, brow bone, above the brow,  in the corner of the eye and to the lower lashine  (I used Bobbi Brown Shimmer Eyeshadow in Bone).
Line the whole top lash-line starting with gel or cake eyeliner from the inner corner of the eye going all the way to the outer corner and sweeping the line up and out (I used Benefit Cake eyeliner).
Lower lash-line: Take a black  pencil ( I  used UD 24/7 in Zero)  and start at the beginning of where your iris starts and line out and downward so that it  looks like it's a line created by the shadow of your top lashes. This will open up your eyes and make them look larger than life.
Lastly, the gap between the two lines you created on the outer edge of the eye should be about a millimeter wide. So in that gap use a white highlighter pencil ( I  used UD 24/7 Midnight Cowboy)  and sweep a little white line in.
Apply two coats of mascara and apply strip eyelashes.

LIPS
Marylin used a lip brush and she would use up to five different shades of lipstick to achieve her look. She also would use a white highlighting color of some kind that she would put on the middle of her lips after the layering of the reds were all done. This would give the illusion of plumpness.
So apply red liner (I used MAC lippencil in Redd) on the outer line of the lips.
then apply with a lip brush three different layers of red lipstick. ( I used Christian Dior, Blazing Red, YSL Le rouge and YSL Red Muse)
Apply white highlighter middle of the lips to soften the middle and leave the edges of the lips stunningly dark. ( I used Bobbi Brown Shimmer Eyeshadow in Bone).
Apply red lipstick again, and highlight again. Finish with a layer of gloss( I used Rimmel Clear Gloss).

Hope you liked the look!
